Reported speech


การนำคำพูดของคนอื่น ๆ ไปบอกเล่าใครฟังมีวิธีพูดได้ 2 วิธีคือ
1. ยกคำพูดเดิมไปบอกทั้งหมด (Direct Speech)
      Nicole says, "I am going to the movie."
     Judy says to me,”get out"
2. ดัดแปลงคำพูดเดิมเป็นคำพูดของผู้เล่าเอง (Indirect Speech)
      Nicole says that she is going to the movies.
     Judy tells me to get out.การเปลี่ยนประโยคคำพูดจาก  Direct Speech หรือ Indirect Speech   มี 3 ประเภท
1.  Indirect Speech     -       Statement (บอกเล่า)
กฎการเปลี่ยน  Direct Statement  เป็น  Indirect Statement
1. เอาเครื่องหมายคำพูดออก (Question mark)
2. เปลี่ยน   says                  say that        ,   said             said that
                 say  to               tell                 ,   said to         told
3. เปลี่ยนสรรพนามให้เหมาะสม
4. เปลี่ยนคำต่อไปนี้ จากใกล้   ไกล

5. เข้า  Verb  ใน  Direct Statement  เป็น  Present  ไม่ต้องเปลี่ยนแปลง  Tense  เมื่อทำเป็น  Indirect Statement  แต่ถ้า  Verb ใน  D.S.  เป็น  Present ต้องเปลี่ยนแปลง Tense ใน Indirect Statement เป็น   more past เช่น

Example: 
1. He says, "I can swim."
       He says that he can swim
2.  He says to me, "I love you."
      He tells me that he loves me.
3.  He said, "I love you."
       He said that he love me.
4.  She said to me, "I picked a rose yesterday."
       She told me that she had picked a rose the bay before.
5.  Bill said, "I am reading now."
       Bill said that he was reading then.2.  Indirect Speech     -       Questions (คำถาม)   มี 2 แบบ
        1. Indirect Question   ที่ประโยคคำถามขึ้นต้นด้วย Question Words
        2. Indirect Question   ที่ประโยคคำถามขึ้นต้นด้วย Helping Verb
Ex      1.    He said to me, "Who is she?"
           He asked me who she was.
           2.    Jane says to me, "Can you remember me?"
           Jane asks me if (whether) I can remember her.กฎของการเปลี่ยน Indirect Question
1. ถอดเครื่องหมายคำพูด (Quotation mark) ออก
2. Reporting verb ต้องเป็น ask, asks หรือ asked แล้วตามด้วยคำเชื่อม ถ้าคำถามเดิมขึ้นต้นด้วย Question Word ก็ใช้เชื่อมได้เลย แต่ถ้าคำถามเดิมขึ้นต้นด้วย Helping V. ให้ใช้ if หรือ whether เชื่อม
3. การลำดับคำให้อยู่ในรูปประโยคบอกเล่า ตัดเครื่องหมาย ? ออกใส่  full stop แทน
4. มีการเปลี่ยนแปลงสรรพนามให้เหมาะสม และเปลี่ยนแปลง  Tense ถ้ากริยานำเป็น  Past
3.  Indirect Speech     -       Command or Request (คำสั่งหรือขอร้อง)
                การเปลี่ยนประโยค คำสั่ง ขอร้อง ให้เป็น Indirect Speech ให้ถือหลักดังนี้
1.  เปลี่ยน  said , said to  เป็นคำต่อไปนี้
        command    -   สั่งอย่างเฉียบขาด                told            -   บอก  สั่งธรรมดาทั่ว ๆ ไป
        asked           -   ขอร้อง                               ordered      -   สั่งค่อนข้างเฉียบขาด
        begged        -   วิงวอน  อ้อนวอน                warned       -   เตือน
        requested    -   ขอร้อง                                advised      -   แนะนำ
        proposed    -   เสนอแนะ                             forbade      -   ห้าม
2.  ถอดเครื่องหมายคำพูดออก
3.  ใช้         to + V1               เมื่อประโยคนั้นสั่งให้ทำ
                not to + V1          เมื่อประโยคนั้นห้ามทำ
4.  เปลี่ยนสรรพนามตามความเหมาะสม
Ex.     1.      A teacher said to me, "Open the door."
             A teacher told me to open the door.
           2.      Father said to me, "Don't make a loud noise."
             Father told me not to make a loud noise.
           3.      He said to her, "please, don't behave like that."
             He begged her not to behave like that.
